WebWasher
-
Version
3.0
WebWasher is an intelligent Internet filter and
assistant used by 4 million users throughout the world
with growing excitement.
WebWasher consists of three functional modules:
- Content Filtering
- Privacy Protection
- Access Control
"CONTENT FILTERING"
WebWasher's standard filters prevent unwanted data
objects on Web pages from being loaded. The following
configurable functions are available:
Dimension filter - filters unwanted advertising
banners. New sizes can be added at any time.
URL filter - activates WebWasher's integrated URL
filter. You can add new objects for other URLs at any
time by mouse click.
Pop-up windows - eliminates any pop-up windows
contained on Web pages.
Scripts - suppresses the execution of scripts that
are executed when Web pages are loaded or closed.
Animations - animated graphics can be entirely
eliminated. Alternatively, you can specify the number
of repetitions of an animation or that only the
first picture should be displayed.
Options - removed graphics can be replaced with your
own image.
"PRIVACY PROTECTION"
WebWasher's filters for protecting privacy prevent
information about users from being forwarded to third
parties without the users' knowledge:
Web bug filter - filters small, invisible graphics that
are hidden in documents and trigger the sending of
messages to third parties. Web bugs are used
by professional data collectors to create a user
profile from watching your surfing habits.
Referer filter - prevents third parties from following
data tracks left by users on the Internet. These
indicate, for example, the page from which you
access another page or the domain from which you have
come. Also prevents the disclosure of your search
queries to third parties.
Cookie filter - prevents the unwanted transmission or
receipt of cookies over the Internet by your browser. A
cookie allows you to be explicitly identified over the
Internet. The cookie filter allows you to classify
cookies as good, bad or neutral. Thus, you can use the
good cookies for home shopping, for example, whereas
cookies that spy on the user are neutralized or
filtered out.
"ACCESS CONTROL"
WebWasher provides the user with controlled access to
the Internet. Wanted information gets through. Unwanted
Web pages or data is blocked:
Negative lists - enables blocking access to unwanted
Web pages. For example, explicit and/or unlawful Web
sites can be kept away from the user. In addition, the
download of certain types of data like programs or
music files can be blocked.
Positive lists - blocks the complete access to the Web.
Only clearly specified Web addresses are unlocked. This
allows, for example, employers to limit the Internet
usage of employees to content relevant to their work,
e.g. a supplier's catalogue.
Options - access to blocked pages can be redirected to
a freely definable Web address. This option enables the
display of an individual info page or the automatic
transfer to alternative content.
