revelers take to the streets, dancing, jumping and of
course shouting. More party-goers than not are likely
under the influence of the fine local rum. But this is
the exhilaration of the occasion and Trinidad Carnival
only happens once a year. This early mas, known as
jouvert, (a contraction of the French "jour ouvert",
or "opening day"), is for the die-hard carnival
