The MELISSA virus, along with some other macro viruses, disables the macro virus protection feature within Word 97 - and forces the Macro Security level in Word 2000 to the "Low" setting. Trend Micro has created a tool that quickly, easily restores macro security settings of Word 97 and Word 2000. Running this small program will: (1) enable Word 97’s macro warning feature so it will again tell you beforehand when you are about to open a document that contains macro commands. (2) reset to "High" Word 2000’s macro security setting so that only signed macros from trusted sources are allowed to run. Unsigned macros are automatically disabled.
