Diagnostic software assesses the health of your hard drive and memory, identifying potential problems that could lead to data loss. It is self-booting, so it is able to run from a diskette even when your system cannot boot. It analyzes file structures, evaluates drive capacity, checks boot sectors, reads the Master Boot Record, cross-checks partition tables and CMOS, checks the system memory for errors, and performs a thorough virus scan. The results of the tests are saved to a text file. In the event that you have lost data due to a virus or other software failure, Data Advisor can detect your modem and establish a point-to-point connection with Ontrack’s data recovery labs. Your diagnostic results are uploaded and an engineer can begin performing Ontrack’s patented Remote Data Recovery process to retrieve your lost files.
