Halloween is a contraction of "All Hallows' Evening,
which is a yearly celebration on October 31, the eve
of the All Hallows' Day dedicated to remembering the
dead. Halloween certainly stands out from the rest of
the holidays we observe throughout the year: It's
full of frightening ghost stories, pranks, elaborate
costumes and bizarre games. On Halloween, we all revel
in being scared.Traditional activities include trick-
or-treating, bonfires, costume parties,
visiting "haunted houses" and carving jack-o-lanterns.
Halloween is thought to be the one night of the year
when ghosts, witches, and fairies are especially
active. While it takes its name from All Saints' Day,
modern Halloween is actually a combination of several
different traditions. The ancient Gaels believed that
on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of
the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased
would come back to life and cause havoc such as
sickness or damaged crops.Masks and costumes are worn
in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or appease
