Word Repair launches Word 2002 or Word XP in a safe
mode and starts the hidden support tool to
troubleshoot and/or customize Word.
During Word startup, several components are loaded,
including: Word's Data registry key, The Normal.dot
global template, Addins and templates, COM addins and
the Word's Options registry key.
If any of these items are damaged or incompatible,
Word may fail to start or function properly. You can
temporarily bypass these and other items by starting
Word in a safe mode that prevents add-ins and global
templates (including the Normal template) from being
loaded automatically.
Starting Word in this safe mode allows you to
perform the following:
Fix corrupt Data registry key
Fix corrupt Normal.dot global template
Disable Addins and Templates
Disable COM add-ins
Set numerous hidden options in Word 2002 or Word 2003
Word Options: DOC-Extension, DOT-
Extension,NoFonMRUList, SpellingWavyUnderlineColor,
GrammarWavyUnderlineColor, SmartTagUnderlineColor,
FormatConsistencyWavyUnderlineColor, OLEDOT
Equation Editor Options: Appdir, Custom Zoom,
ForceOpen, ShowAll, ToolBarDocked, ToolBarDockPos,
ToolBarShown, ToolBarWinPos, Zoom
