File Monster - Version 2.0 When you delete files using normal deletion methods, you leave all the information in those files readilyavailable to anyone with access to your computer! FileMonster, on the other hand, completely erases filesfrom your system -- actually overwriting theinformation in the file. The reason your data is stillavailable when you delete files with normal deletionmethods is because the procedure only tells theoperating system to not recognize the file as beingpresent anymore; however, the data contained in thosefiles hasn't truly been erased and anyone with a littleknowledge of computers can very easily get the data back.Often the first place someone that wants to retrieveinformation from your computer is going to look is atthe information in the "deleted" files. After all, youjust tipped them off that those files were importantenough to you that you tried to erase them. Somequestions you have to ask yourself: 1. Is thereinformation on your computer that you don't want justanyone to have access to? 2. When you leave youroffice at night, just who has access to your computer? 3. Do you trust that neighbor that comes over to yourhouse to use (or fix) your computer? How about yourroommate? 4. Do you trust the people you give yourcomputer to when something needs installed or fixed? Now maybe these people will just snoop around -- ormaybe they'll take the information they collect fortheir own use, or they'll use the information they findagainst you!To take your privacy a step further, File Monster notonly erases all the data in that file so that it cannotbe recovered, it also overwrites the original file namewith a randomly generated name and it changes thefile's creation date. If you have files on your systemthat are confidential (or just plain personal) and youdo not want to leave to chance that someone can easilyrecover the information in them after you have"deleted" them, then File Monster will be an essentialtool!
