Encrypt Mail
-
Version
3.0
Encrypt Mail encrypts e-mail, text, and files. In
addition, outgoing and incoming e-mail messages may
include file attachments that can be encrypted along
with the message. Encrypt Mail is not intended to
replace applications such as PGP or Microsoft's Outlook
Express, that support Public Key cryptography. Encrypt
Mail is intended to be a supplemental tool that
supports private key cryptography. Though public-key
cryptography increases security and convenience,
public-key cryptography may be vulnerable to
impersonation. A successful attack on a certification
authority can allow an adversary to impersonate
whomever he or she chooses by using a public key
certificate from the compromised authority. In private
key cryptography, though, the secret key must be
transmitted (either manually or through some other
secured communication channel) since the same key is
used for encryption and decryption. Encrypt Mail will
optionally store your private key for later use.
Private keys are stored on a per user basis in a file
named EncryptMail.ini stored in the Windows directory.
But don't worry, the stored key is encrypted. Encrypt
Mail will reload a user's private key only if the user
successfully logs on to Windows. The export version of
Encrypt Mail supports a 56-bit private key using your
choice of RC4 or RC5 algorithms.
