Sometimes I wonder if our technological progress is
really a progress and not a regress. Back in the 50's,
you walked into a bar, put a coin into the jukebox,
pressed a button with your favorite song number and
the music started. Piece of cake! In the 80's,
everyone owned a cassette tape recorder. You walked to
the shelf with your tapes, took a cassette with your
favorite album or with an album that your guests would
like to listen to, put it into your recorder and
pushed the Play button. Simple!
Nowadays, everything is computerized. Vinyl records,
tapes, cassettes, and even audio CDs have vanished.
MP3 files are everywhere. You download MP3 files to
your computer, you download MP3 files to your flash
player, you listen to MP3 files on your mobile
handset. The modern computer is a powerful media-
center equipped with a 6 channel audio adapter. There
are a lot of feature-rich software audio players
available. And now what? After downing some beers you
come to your computer and start thoughtfully clicking
