    • The Peoples Sorcerer

      -  Version  1
Matt Wilding, 19 years of age, and a dreamer. A real dreamer. For as long as Matt could remember, he'd always dreamt sequentially, each night continuing the dream from the night before. It was always the same location, the same people and the same sensations. He looked forward to his nocturnal escapism, leaving his repetitive daytime existence behind as he learned the craft of the Necromancer by night, hearing folklore tales of the Sorcerers of old, and how they had pitted their craft against the tyrant King in an effort to aid the peasants that could ill afford to fend for themselves. He considered his night life to be a gift, an exceptional chance to escape the boredom of his daytime existence, though he knew that the people living in the small towns not too far from the Necromancer School were suffering under Stern's rule, and it troubled him. A number of things seemed to be troubling him lately, including the guarded attitudes of his Necromancer tutors and the unwelcome attention of the School bully. Just as Matt began to wonder if his night time adventures were still an escape for him, he found himself in a pitched battle against three opponents, taking a deep knife wound to his thigh as he fought them off, the pain burning deep into his conscience as he slept on, wanting to wake from his nightmare world, till eventually he woke. As he prepared to swing his legs from the bed. The sight of the huge, clotted pool of blood that still clung to his legs, froze all thoughts and action. His breath caught at the back of his throat, his eyes frantically searching for any overlooked cut or wound from his scuffle outside the pub last night. As his eyes caught sight of the three inch, freshly healed scar on his left thigh, the room about him seemed to tilt away from his bed, his ribs aching with the pounding of his heart, gradually increasing until he realised he'd been holding his breath. His eyes slammed shut as he forced his jaw to relax, his breath exploding through his teeth to drown out the weather forecast that babbled from the radio. The line separating his worlds blurred, becoming indistinct as his two lives began to flow together, merging. (This download is the first five chapters of the novel, free of charge.)
