Encrypt Mail - Version 3.0 Encrypt Mail encrypts e-mail, text, and files. Inaddition, outgoing and incoming e-mail messages mayinclude file attachments that can be encrypted alongwith the message. Encrypt Mail is not intended toreplace applications such as PGP or Microsoft's OutlookExpress, that support Public Key cryptography. EncryptMail is intended to be a supplemental tool thatsupports private key cryptography. Though public-keycryptography increases security and convenience,public-key cryptography may be vulnerable toimpersonation. A successful attack on a certificationauthority can allow an adversary to impersonatewhomever he or she chooses by using a public keycertificate from the compromised authority. In privatekey cryptography, though, the secret key must betransmitted (either manually or through some othersecured communication channel) since the same key isused for encryption and decryption. Encrypt Mail willoptionally store your private key for later use.Private keys are stored on a per user basis in a filenamed EncryptMail.ini stored in the Windows directory. But don't worry, the stored key is encrypted. EncryptMail will reload a user's private key only if the usersuccessfully logs on to Windows. The export version ofEncrypt Mail supports a 56-bit private key using yourchoice of RC4 or RC5 algorithms.
